Gap Drone Appoints Former CASA Chairman, Tony Mathews FAICD as Chairman of the Board

We are proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Tony Mathews as the new Chairman of Gap Drone.

Tony brings to Gap Drone an exceptional legacy of leadership across Australia's aviation sector, spanning over four decades.

His career began in 1981 with QantasLink, where he rose to General Manager, overseeing the pivotal transition of the airline's regional fleet from turboprop to jet aircraft — a groundbreaking milestone for Australian regional aviation.

Tony went on to lead the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) as General Manager of Aviation, delivering critical healthcare services across vast regional and remote areas of Australia — a mission deeply aligned with Gap Drone’s vision to connect the disconnected.

Tony’s leadership extended to the highest levels of Australian aviation regulation, serving as Deputy Chairman of Airservices Australia before being appointed Chairman of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), a role he held until 2021. His influence in shaping Australia's aviation landscape is matched by his lifelong dedication to regional and Outback communities.

Tony’s appointment marks a defining moment for Gap Drone as we embark on our mission to revolutionise logistics across Australia and the Asia-Pacific. His experience, political acumen, and unwavering passion for connecting remote communities will be instrumental in guiding Gap Drone’s journey to empower the Outback and beyond.

Together, we are building the future of long-range autonomous logistics — connecting the world’s most isolated communities to the global economy.

Welcome to the future, Tony.
